Absolutely wonderful! My two friends and I stayed in a triple room and our entire stay was fantastic. Location was great, Iain is wonderful and makes a fantastic (and accommodating) breakfast! A 20 minute walk away from rural cave and close enough to everything else you’d want makes this place fantastic. Comfortable beds with lovely amenities. 100% would stay again!

Ian is an excellent host. The breakfast at the property is amazing and Ian ensures it is made to suit ones preference. The property has free parking and is quite close to Ambleside. We did a few walks around the property and it was beautiful. There's also a garden in the property where one can play croquet. Overall, this property offers a lot more and is more affordable than others in the same vicinity. If I come back again to Lake District, I will definitely want to stay here again.

Highly recommend staying here. Ian was so welcoming and attentive as the host of Rydal Lodge. I was booked to stay in a double room but was given the option to have a suite for my 2 night stay. This was beautifully presented with views over the garden. The hospitality tray was amply stocked, with lovely daffodil mugs. The walled garden sits on the edge of the river Rothay with seating. There is a private walk through the gardens to the bridge leading to Rydal Water. Breakfast both mornings was excellent and I had cereal and a veggie full English. Ian is the chef as well as host, cooking up a treat. Rydal Lodge is set in easy reach of some stunning walks & attractions. I travelled by public transport for this visit bit there's parking on site. Highly recommend if you're looking for a personalised touch for you short or longer stay.

A lucky find. Amazing property 16th - 17th century, and the owner has kept the feelmof the place. Very quirky, interesting property. Rooms great, host Ian was fantastic, friendly, interesting, and informative of local area, and cooks thr best breakfast. Location is great, set away from the busy centres like Windermere etc but only a 10 minute drive. Also has its "own lake" out yhe back through the beautiful garden and along the river. Will definitely return.

My wife and I had a wonderful weekend stay at Rydal Lodge along with our two dogs. Ian, the host, was magnificent and made us delicious breakfasts during our visit, as well as feeding our pets. It is located in a truly amazing place, just a few minutes walk away to the off-road stunning trails to Rydal Water, Ambleside and Grasmere. I highly recommend Rydal Lodge!

Lovely stay in Rydal after a long walk...

Lovely stay in Rydal after a long walk over from Patterdale. The river running past the garden is idyllic and a stroll to Grasmere via Rydal Water and Loughrigg Terrace is fully recommended. Badger pub is a great thing to have on the doorstep too!

I stayed recently for a weekend and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Iain is a fantastic host and I was made incredibly welcome. The log burner in the cosy guest lounge was set up for my arrival and in the evening. I stayed in room 3 at the rear, which I think is Grasmere and overlooks the garden and river. It was tranquil with just the sound of owls hooting at night. My room was spacious, very clean and warm, with restored wooden shutters even though it was the very cold snap of zero degrees outside during the day. The bed was very comfy. The whole place is quirky- the older part of the building is 16th century and if you like very flat floors and smooth walls with matching furniture, ‘Premier Inn/hotel chain style, this isn’t the place for you! There are original beams and period features in the hall & dining room. There are thoughtful touches such as binoculars in the dining room to watch the birds at breakfast. Breakfast was served promptly ( as I had work locally) and was cooked fresh to order. Iain’s scrabbled eggs are delicious along with the rest of the full English, fresh fruit to start and a warm croissant with main dish!!!!! Lashings of coffee in a caffietere- amazing. Iain will go out of his way to accommodate any requests and as I enjoy a cup of tea in the evening I asked for some fresh milk which was put in a flask in the guest fridge downstairs for me to take to my room. The location is stunning, central to Rydal, with numerous walks both low & accessible high level from the door. It was a very relaxing, revitalising stay in a building with great character, and an even better host despite it being a predominantly working trip! I will be returning with my family.

My friends and I had a great stay...

My friends and I had a great stay at Rydal Lodge. Iain the owner gave us a warm welcome and was very helpful and accommodating, ensuring our stay was pleasant and comfortable.
Since we missed breakfast on the first morning, Iain kindly sorted out some croissants and sandwiches for us.
The Rooms are good as is the cooked breakfast. There is a small car park which is helpful.
The location is excellent. Ambleside can be reached in 5 minutes by car. There are some nice walks right from the doorstep of the lodge. Rydal Water and Rydal Cave are very close by.
I would stay here again without hesitation and can highly recommend giving the place a go.
