Do not trust this contractor to do a good job

I suppose the alarm bells should have rung when Ezekial turned up in a car rather than a van, and consequently had to use many of my tools, as he did not have enough of his own to complete the job. He was aware he was fitting a shower and completing some partitioning, and he charged me for that. However, he had not brought, for example, silicone sealant with him or proper cutting blades to cut metal stud work (yet knew the house had metal stud work), so he used mine. When he left, I had to skim the plasterboard joints where there was a discrepancy of 5mm, but what was a major concern was the fumes that were coming from the now-fitted shower tray. Looking from the ceiling below, I could see that the pipework was under strain. where Ezekial had not cut a big enough hole in the floorboards. This meant that the trap was not central to the shower hole, and putting a spirit level on the showertray it was not level. In fact, the run was 8mm different from one end to the other, meaning that if I had not checked, then the doors would not fit, and if I had left it and the shower was tiled, then everything would have had to be ripped out at a huge cost. Also, having looked up more information on installing a shower tray, I learnt that it should have been bedded on a weak sand/cement mix to aid levelling and to prevent strain on the tray with movement in the floorboards. Ezekial had placed it on an uneven chipboard floor. After contacting him, as apparently they have a guarantee, to raise my concerns, he said that the fumes were normal and, for goodwill, would replace the trap with one that blocks the fumes. When I pointed out that the tray should have been bedded on sand and cement, I did not hear from him again. The standard of work is shocking. I have taken out the tray myself, as it was just lying loose on the floor and also removed the trap, and will get competent contractors in to redo the work. I strongly suggest that anyone thinking of employing this contractor forget it. He’s not cheap, and he has happily taken my money despite knowing that his standard of work is poor. He talks the talk, and anyone who doesn’t know much about plumbing may be fooled by his shoddy work, so please keep well clear, or, like me, it will cost you dear in the end. If I could give him 0 out of 5, I would. The decent thing to do, Ezekial, would be to refund some of the money you have taken from me.
